And off we go...

This day couldn’t have come fast enough. But it’s finally here. Right after work today, George and I are driving to California once more. And we’re so ready for a long weekend and nice break.

We’ll be staying with family who live not too far away from that particular magic kingdom which is ruled by mice and ducks. And tomorrow, that’s where we’ll be.

Well, not exactly at the kindgom itself but rather at the adjacent California Adventure theme park. It’s part of the whole Disneyland Resort area so it’s basically the same. Not really, but kinda. All the Mouseketeers out there know what I mean. We haven’t been to California Adventure in a while and we can’t wait.

And since tomorrow is my birthday, I’ll get in for free. It’s going to be so much fun. We have no plans for Saturday yet other than spending the day with family. Maybe we just hang out on the beach. Whatever happens happens.

However, we were hoping to escape the triple digit temperatures that are usually hovering over the Mojave Desert in the middle of summer. Hmmm...imagine that? But no such luck. It looks like Anaheim, California will be baked at slightly over 100º F tomorrow as well. Plus 25% humidity. That might not seem like a lot. But to us desert dwellers, whom are used to zero humidity, this might as well be like being inside a sauna.

It’ll be one hot and steamy birthday.

You’ll see us at the Grizzly River Run a lot tomorrow.

George, the big cheese and I at the Disney Studios in Orlando, Florida last fall. Yup, we’re big-time Disney freaks.

As if you haven’t figured that one out already.

Black and White With a Tad of Blue

Or I can put the following in our blog instead.

We spent a nice Sunday walking in the park, doing a little grocery shopping, some laundry and then just relaxed for the rest of the day.

However, Saturday turned out more dramatic then we had planned. We were suppose to take George’s mother to the airport before the break of dawn. Of course, our car battery decided to die right there and then as we were ready to put her luggage in the trunk.

Damn you, stupid desert heat, cause of early car battery death.

So we loaded all her stuff into her old Cadillac and took her to McCarran Int’l Airport. While she was happily on her way to another globe-trotting adventure, George and I were hoping that the service department of our car dealer would be open to deal with our little dilemma. Luckily, they were and the old Cadillac was now helpful to at least jump start our car in order to take to the dealership. Without turning on the A/C, radio or even the turn indicators, I drove very carefully and hoped the car wouldn’t die on me on the way to the dealership. George followed me in the old Cadi. Young, hot service guy Leonard was there but unfortunately we didn’t get him this time around. Darn! We were just glad that our car was taken care of.

Dressed in black and white with a tad of blue, ready to have some fun

This was way too much drama for this particular day. You see, we were hoping to save our energy for the annual Black & White Party at the Hard Rock Hotel that evening. Having to get up early at some ungodly hour to take someone to the airport and then dealing with car trouble is not so helpful if one plans to make it through a late, fun-filled party night.

Fortunately, we seemed to have stored enough energy for unplanned dramas and big fun parties. The Black & White Party had a great turnout and raised $100,000 for AFAN. There were some great costumes and plenty of freaks around. Along with lots of free food and drinks, entertainment and lots of loud earth-shattering dance music. We danced and moved until we were drenched in sweat. It was lots of fun and we ended up staying out until sometime around 3 a.m.

This was the place to be that night, except maybe for the Depeche Mode concert that happened simultaneously at Palm's Pearl Theatre on the other side of the Strip.

Then the effect of all the drama and fun suddenly hit us. And we hit the sack.

Sorry, no airport shuttle service this time around.

Well...this just sucks!

The last two or three weeks have been rather depressing, to say the least. Not on a personal level though. George and I are well and still lovey-dovey as ever, if not more.

The job front, however, looks very dreary. There may be changes up ahead at the company I work for, which may have a profound impact on our lives. The thing is, I don’t know yet. I also don’t know if it will even affect me at all. The waiting game my company is currently playing is also not very helpful to lift spirits or the working morale. And we basically have put our lives on hold, since we have not a clue what will happen in the immediate future. I will know more specifics by the end of this month.

I hope.

Of course, the current political circus in the United States and the so-called debate regarding the health care reform also isn’t helping much to cure my continually down-spiralling bad mood. I seriously cannot believe what is happening in this country. Have most Americans now completely lost the little bit that is left of their brains?

How did a proposal to creating a health care system, which would be beneficial for the welfare and betterment of a society, turned into this vile, fascist and fear-mongering slugfest. Reasoning and common sense totally went out of the window in the process. All of a sudden the opponents claim this country is now led by a Hitler-like socialist and we‘re basically in the middle of another civil war. Do some of these people even know who Hitler was and what socialism really means?

That’s right, people. It’s starting to look more and more like a civil war. Have you seen this angry mob? People are now coming to townhall meetings armed up to their teeth with hand guns and assault riffles. Because problems are best discussed and solved in a civil manner with weapons in a highly evolved country like ‘Merica. Oh, I’m sorry. Did I use a “evolutionary” word? I meant to say in an “intelligently designed” world like ‘Merica. These aggressive people are not only hurdling insults around and yelling at everyone who dares to have a different opinion to theirs, but also threaten to kill the president, his family and anyone who stands in the way of...well...the American Way of Life.

Democracy and freedom at its best.

Just when you think it couldn‘t possibly get much worse after eight disastrous years of the George W. Bush administration, this happens. The Republicans may not officially be in power on Capitol Hill anymore, but they sure as hell have their grip still very tightly around this country. With dumbshits like Sarah Palin still spewing her venom and the GOP’s minions working their evil brainwashing magic in the media, like Rush Limbaugh or Glenn Beck, they continue to spread false facts and hatred to their gullible flock of conservative, uneducated and fanatically religious sheep.

I am so fucking sick of all this shit and all the stupidity. How can a country and its citizen in this day and age be so far removed from reality? This is not the same United States anymore I came to 20 years ago. What happened to the friendly, open and compassionate people? The ones you can reason and have a healthy discussion with without having to fear being shot to death because you said you believe that the sky is in fact blue.

This country has lost its way and I’m afraid it‘s lost forever. And I don’t know if I‘m willing or have the energy to stick it out here much longer. It’s not only the gay issue which has been demonized by the right-wingers and religious nutcases but everything that affects all of our lives: the betterment of a more humane and happier society as a whole which improves the quality of life, health and environment. Which ultimately leads to a stronger economy and more wealth to give back to the community.

I know...I‘m wishing for some utopian fantasy land.

Like a Scandinavian country or something.

Speaking of a fantasy land. Despite the uncertain outcome of my professional future and the fascist developments in this so-called land of the free, George and I will most definitely spend my birthday in Disneyland next Friday. Recession, lost jobs and “socialism” be damned. Disneyland grants me free admission on my special day and I sure as hell will take advantage of that. So, next weekend you will find George and I in sunny and hopefully wildfire-free Southern California, acting like a bunch of silly kids having a gay ol’ time with Mickey and the gang.

Because that’s what we gays do...having a gay ol’ time.

God, we’re evil!

Clean Out That Grand Old Poop!

I wish we could do some cleaning out in Washington, D.C. as well. We should start with the pre-historic and brain-dead GOP and their greedy lobbyist minions...

...oh wait a minute...

...America itself is pre-historic, brain-dead and greedy.

Darn! Oh, well. It sounded like a great idea at the time.

Stupidity

Albert Einstein once said that two things are infinite:
the universe and human stupidity.

Human stupidity in America is definitly infinite.
